A Greek court has ordered the ex-wife of a murdered Polish professor to be held in pretrial detention on suspicion of masterminding his killing, despite her claims of innocence.
The 43-year-old woman's 35-year-old partner, who confessed to the shooting, was also remanded in custody along with three alleged accomplices.
During questioning, the ex-wife denied any involvement, stating she had no motive and was "devastated and shocked." However, judges rejected her claims and ordered her detained.
The confessed shooter told investigators he acted alone to "free my family," fearing the victim would take their children to America.
He claimed his partner and the accomplices were unaware of his plan to kill.
Testimonies from the accomplices supported this, with both a 30-year-old Bulgarian and a 23-year-old Albanian national telling police they were hired only to "intimidate" the professor and did not know about a murder plot.
The investigation is ongoing.
