Greek tax authorities issued €84,000 in fines and ordered three 48-hour closures at coastal hospitality venues along the Athens Riviera over the holiday weekend, after 102 unannounced inspections across Palaio Faliro, Alimos and Glyfada uncovered 110 tax violations at 27 businesses.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue said the violations included the deliberate non-issuance of mandatory receipts, tampering with digital tax registries and failure to transmit cash register data to the state's myDATA electronic accounting platform.

The three closures targeted businesses with the most severe breaches of fiscal regulations.

The authority said the holiday weekend inspections mark the start of an intensified summer enforcement campaign using digital auditing tools and real-time ledger verification across high-volume coastal and island districts.

The Riviera crackdown is consistent with a broader government effort to close the gap between declared and actual commercial revenues — an initiative that this week also saw the launch of a web-scraping algorithm targeting landlords who declare low nominal rents while collecting higher amounts in cash, a scheme authorities estimate costs the state €1.35 billion annually.
