Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis will convene an emergency National Foreign Policy Council meeting on Wednesday to address the rapidly escalating crisis in the Middle East and coordinate the potential evacuation of citizens.

The high-level session follows a Sunday videoconference where Mr. Gerapetritis received grim on-the-ground updates from Greek ambassadors and consuls stationed in Iran and across the region.

With regional air traffic severely disrupted by recent military alerts and drone strikes, the ministry's top priority remains the safety and swift repatriation of Greek nationals.

Mr. Gerapetritis has directed all diplomatic missions to process evacuation requests through a newly activated online platform and prepare for immediate extractions the moment commercial flights resume.

Wednesday's emergency council aligns with broader government efforts to forge a unified national response to the threat. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is simultaneously conducting private security briefings with opposition leaders.

Following these meetings, Mr. Mitsotakis is scheduled to address parliament regarding the volatile Eastern Mediterranean theater, where Greece is actively working to protect its vital energy and shipping interests.
