A foreign tourist was arrested after driving under the influence of alcohol in a crash that sent his car airborne before it struck a tree and multiple parked vehicles in Chersonissos, Crete, authorities said.
Following the crash, the driver underwent mandatory testing, which showed his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit. He was arrested at the scene.
According to reports, the vehicle veered off its course, entered a side road and struck at least three parked cars before flipping over. Passersby and other drivers rushed to help amid chaotic scenes at the site.
Three occupants of the vehicle that overturned were taken to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
Local outlet creta24 reported that a man was inside one of the parked vehicles struck in the crash. Although his car sustained damage, he was not injured.
Authorities have not released further details on the driver's identity or nationality, or on potential charges beyond the drunk driving arrest.
