An elderly man has filed a police complaint after being attacked by a dog belonging to the mother of Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas, expressing frustration that she did not apologize or show concern following the incident.
The attack occurred Monday morning in Vouliagmeni, a seaside suburb of Athens.
The victim, Giorgos Lamprou, a local restaurant owner, said the large German shepherd-type dog bit him on the thigh without warning as he was walking near a café.
The dog was reportedly on a leash about three to four meters long.
“I felt a sharp grip on my thigh from behind. I turned and saw a beast—I thought it was a bear or a wolf,” Mr. Lamprou told iefimerida.gr. “It tore my pants. I couldn’t move. I fell and nearly blacked out.”
Café patrons assisted Mr. Lamprou and took him to a nearby hospital in Voula, where he received stitches, tetanus shots, and medication.
“The pain was terrible,” he said.
Mr. Lamprou alleges that the dog’s owner, identified as the mother of Stefanos Tsitsipas, left the scene immediately with the dog and did not check on him or offer an apology.
“She just took the dog and left. What if it had bitten a small child in the neck? I could’ve had a heart attack,” he said.
Following the incident, Mr. Lamprou filed a formal complaint, prompting authorities to search for her under Greece’s “in flagrante” legal process for minor offenses.
If located within a specific timeframe, she could face immediate legal consequences.
Local residents reportedly warned the woman in the past to muzzle the dog, stating it posed a danger.
Mr. Lamprou echoed this, saying, “She acted like nothing happened—just because she’s someone. But I’m someone too. Everyone is someone.”
He emphasized that he is not seeking compensation, only accountability. “I just want a simple apology and for her to control the dog. Next time it might be worse.”
