Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias has met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, kicking off a pivotal visit aimed at cementing a strategic corridor between the Mediterranean and the Indo-Pacific.
Mr. Dendias, who arrived in New Delhi earlier in the day at the invitation of Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, held talks with Dr. Jaishankar at his residence.
The two officials discussed the rapidly evolving security landscape in their respective regions, with a focus on deepening military and industrial cooperation.
“We had a cordial discussion on regional and international developments,” Mr. Dendias said in a statement posted on X.
The high-level visit comes just days after India and the European Union finalized a landmark Free Trade Agreement in late January, a pact that Athens actively supported. Greece is positioning itself as India’s primary gateway to Europe, particularly through the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Discussions also touched on Greece’s “Agenda 2030” military modernization program.
Mr. Dendias is scheduled to travel to Bengaluru on Sunday to meet with Indian defense technology firms, seeking partnerships in innovation and drone warfare to bolster Greek capabilities.
He will conclude his trip with a formal summit with Mr. Singh on Monday.
