Nearly all Greek internet users now shop online, with the use of debit cards for e-commerce payments skyrocketing from just 9% to 57% in the past year, according to a new report.
The annual e-commerce survey from the digital payments company Nexi Greece highlights the rapid maturation of the Greek online market.
The report found that 97% of internet users now make online purchases, with a strong preference for domestic e-shops.
Fashion remains the most popular online shopping category, followed by food delivery and pharmacy products.
Security, speed, and ease of use were cited as the top factors influencing a shopper's choice of payment method.
"This year’s results confirm that e-commerce is now the dominant shopping method in Greece," said Eleni Argyropoulou, Head of Commercial at Nexi Greece.
Digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay are also rapidly gaining popularity, according to the report.
