Ilias Kasidiaris, the convicted former leader of the outlawed Golden Dawn organization who was barred from running in Greece's last elections, has announced he will support the "Alliance of Greeks" party, a group formed in 2025, in a video posted to social media.
Mr. Kasidiaris said the party's charter has already been filed with Greece's Supreme Court and that it maintains an active parliamentary group.
He claimed the party cannot legally be excluded from future elections, citing what he described as a scathing report from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) following correspondence from the party's lawmakers, which he said condemned what he called unconstitutional amendments used to block his previous party, National Party Greeks, from the ballot.
Mr. Kasidiaris did not confirm his own candidacy format, saying only that whether he runs on a party list, as an independent in a constituency, or through another arrangement would become clear once candidacies are formally filed with the Supreme Court's First Department.
Mr. Kasidiaris was convicted in 2020 as a leading member of Golden Dawn, which Greek courts ruled a criminal organization responsible for hate crimes including the 2013 murder of anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas.
His previous party was excluded from Greece's May 2026 elections under legislation barring candidates convicted of certain offenses, a decision he has challenged as unconstitutional. Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis has said any decision on Mr. Kasidiaris's future candidacy rests with Greece's Supreme Court, not the government.
