Condé Nast Traveller has named Crete one of eight top European destinations for September, citing its 27°C average maximum temperatures after the peak-season crowds thin, and specifically recommending the coastal city of Chania for its Venetian harbour at sunset and quieter beach access in the shoulder weeks.

The publication placed Crete alongside Naples, Nice, Hvar, Antalya, Ibiza and Seville in its annual September index. Crete was singled out for its geographical capacity to retain summer conditions well into autumn — a characteristic that Greek tourism authorities have been actively promoting as part of a national strategy to extend the travel season and spread economic revenues beyond July and August.

The endorsement is well-timed: British, German and Scandinavian markets are the island's strongest September sources of demand, and the Condé Nast profile reaches precisely those audiences. Tourism officials welcomed the coverage as reinforcing the message they have been taking to trade fairs in northern Europe throughout the spring.

The listing also fits a pattern of international recognition for Greek destinations this year — following the Blue Flag beach rankings that placed Greece second globally and the Visa travel trends survey showing 55 percent of Greece-bound visitors are returning travelers. Crete leads all Greek regions with 154 Blue Flag certifications.
