The concessions for repairs of the road network after damage by storms in September 2023 were signed in Larissa on Tuesday.
The contracts are part of a larger project for railroad and road repairs worth 1.35 billion euros, as announced by Infrastructure & Transport Minister Christos Dimas on Monday during the signatures for the concessions relating to the railroad system.
Right before the signing in Larissa, Dimas said, "This is an important day for Thessaly, and it was a conscious decision to do it here. I can accept that there was a delay, but all restoration works will begin immediately and you will start seeing the work sites set up."
The cost of the road repairs is 899.7 million euros and affect 1,007 points of the road network damaged by the 'Daniel' and 'Elias' storms in six regional units: Magnesia, Karditsa, Trikala, Fthiotida, Larissa, and Evia.
According to the road repair timeline, the works should be concluded in 48 months from the signing of concessions, while the repairs are exclusively focused on damaged infrastructure, not on additions or extensions beyong the absolute necessary related works. The project includes restoration of tarmac, bridges, drainage channels, earth banks, and such.
Attending the signing were the ministers of Digital Governance, Rural Development & Food, the deputy ministers of Rural Development & Food, a minister to the prime minister (Thanassis Kontogeorgis), and former ministers Christos Staikouras (ex Infrastructure) and Christos Triantopoulos (ex deputy minister to the prime minister). Also present and welcoming the delegation were Thessaly Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas.
