The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the ancient Roman theater nestled beneath the Acropolis, will close this fall for a major three-year restoration, but not before a final run of performances in September offers audiences a last chance to experience the iconic venue.
The final program features a strong focus on world-class dance. Ballet star Daniil Simkin leads an ensemble of top international dancers in a charity performance on Sept. 10.
On Sept. 14, the Odessa National Opera Ballet and Orchestra will present the timeless romantic masterpiece "Giselle."
Greek music will also take center stage with two major tributes to the legendary composer Mikis Theodorakis on the centenary of his birth: one from the renowned Béjart Ballet Lausanne on Sept. 18, and another led by tenor Mario Frangoulis on Sept. 19. Composer Minos Matsas will also present a unique concert on Sept. 16, blending Greek rebetika with fado, tango, and blues.
The season will conclude on Sept. 20 with "Ionian Serenades," a grand concert by the historic Old Philharmonic of Corfu, one of Greece's oldest cultural institutions, celebrating 185 years of music.
