A 59-year-old Bulgarian national has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an 85-year-old farmer in Farsala, Greece.
The victim was found dead in a field in October 2024, having suffered multiple head injuries from a heavy tool, likely a hoe. Investigators focused on the 59-year-old, a former worker at the victim’s walnut grove, alleging a financial motive.
The suspect allegedly stole the farmer’s vehicle after the killing and abandoned it in Thessaloniki before fleeing to Bulgaria.
A European arrest warrant led to his capture in Bulgaria on Nov. 8, 2024.
He was extradited to Greece to stand trial. Despite denying involvement, the man was unanimously convicted of intentional homicide by the Mixed Jury Court of Volos.
He remains in custody.
