Actor Brad Pitt emerged from Athens City Hall shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday amid applause from hundreds of fans who had waited hours, capping a day of filming for his new movie "The Riders."

Despite visible fatigue from extended shoots, Pitt warmly greeted the crowd before boarding his vehicle and departing Kotzia Square.

He had arrived relaxed and smiling around 3 p.m., waving to well-wishers' cheers before entering the neoclassical building.

Production equipment and costumes were staged since Thursday in the third basement level of the square's parking garage, with possible scenes planned along Kleisthenous Street at the hall's rear.

The shoot marks a shift to central Athens after locations in Hydra and Chalkida for the film, directed by Edward Berger and adapted from Tim Winton's 1994 novel.

Pitt portrays a father searching Europe for his missing wife and daughter, with co-stars including Coco Grinstone and Julianne Nicholson; producers hail from Plan B Entertainment and Scott Free.

Greece's growing film industry, hitting 1 billion euros recently, draws major Hollywood projects like this one.
