Bomb disposal specialists have safely neutralized a British-made Mills grenade discovered by local residents near the Kifisos River in Amfikleia, according to Greek outlet tvstar.

Authorities were notified after the grenade was spotted, prompting a response from the 695th Ammunition Base Depot, headquartered in Avlaki Stylidas.

A team of specialized military bomb disposal technicians was dispatched to the site, where they took safety precautions before neutralizing the device.

The unit also searched the surrounding area to ensure it was safe for residents to move about freely.

Mills bombs, a type of British hand grenade first developed during World War I and widely used through World War II, are occasionally unearthed in Greece decades after wartime conflicts, particularly in rural and riverside areas.

Authorities routinely urge residents who discover unexploded ordnance not to handle it and to contact local police or military units immediately.

No injuries were reported in connection with the discovery.
