The director of a cardiothoracic surgery clinic at a major Athens hospital will stand trial on Friday, accused of soliciting and accepting a bribe from a patient's wife.
The surgeon was brought before a court on Wednesday, where a judge granted a postponement until Friday to allow him to prepare his defense.
He was released from custody but placed under a travel ban.
He faces a misdemeanor charge of bribery.
The doctor, who headed the clinic at Hippokration Hospital, was arrested in a police sting operation after allegedly accepting marked banknotes in exchange for providing post-operative care.
The case has renewed public focus on corruption in Greece's public health system and prompted a "zero tolerance" pledge from Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis.
