Just one week after opening its doors, the Conrad Athens The Ilisian — the sweeping transformation of the landmark Hilton Athens — has exceeded 50 percent occupancy and is positioning itself as the city's first urban resort, anchored by a curated retail and dining strip designed to draw residents as much as hotel guests.
The 65,000-square-meter complex, managed by TEMES S.A., is built around the philosophy that a luxury hotel should function as a destination for the city it inhabits, not merely a place to sleep.
Nicholas Vianellis, development director at TEMES, described the retail belt as an attempt to reclaim the building's historic role as a central gathering point for Athenians — offering bespoke services that go well beyond standard hotel amenities.
"We are talking about the first urban resort in Athens and one of the few in the world," said General Manager Nassos Papazoglou.
Mr. Papazoglou said the offering is calibrated to the demands of a sophisticated local clientele as much as international visitors.
The retail lineup blends returning Athenian institutions with new arrivals. Iconic jeweler Kessaris will reopen within days, carrying Rolex and Bulgari.
Zeus+Dione is launching its first standalone eyewear boutique on the premises, alongside a poolside summer collection shop.
A 325-square-meter concept store by Andria Mitsakos, featuring a Monocle shop-in-shop and exclusive international designers, rounds out the retail offer.
Mrs. Mitsakos described the space as redefining retail as an integral part of the guest journey.
Dining takes a theatrical turn with the Byzantino Grande Brasserie, where Executive Chef Angelos Lantos oversees a dedicated cheese room offering expert pairings.
The Athenian Lounge introduces tableside custom coffee blending, while a hair salon by Vangelis Hatzis and a bespoke tailoring shop by Kourlas Athens complete a lifestyle offer that blurs the line between hotel and neighborhood institution.
