Public transportation in Athens is expected to come to a near standstill on Tuesday as workers join a 24-hour strike to protest a new labor bill.
The Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers has confirmed its participation, which will halt all national and suburban rail services.
The operating company, Hellenic Train, is expected to announce specific cancellations in the coming days.
In Athens, the metro and tram will operate on a severely limited schedule, running only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow protesters to attend a central rally scheduled for 11 a.m. in Syntagma Square.
The strike was called by the Centre of Athens Labor Unions (EKA) to protest a new bill from the Ministry of Labor that unions say undermines workers' rights.
Announcements from bus and trolley-bus unions regarding their participation in the strike are still pending.
