Public transportation in Athens will face major disruptions on Wednesday as workers join a 24-hour nationwide general strike to protest a new government labor bill.
Buses and trolleys will operate on a limited schedule, running only between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Metro and tram services will be even more restricted, operating only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help transport demonstrators to and from a central protest rally.
The strike, called by Greece's largest public and private sector unions, GSEE and ADEDY, is also expected to halt all ferry services as the seafarers' union is participating. Disruptions are also possble for schools and public hospitals.
Unions are demanding the withdrawal of a new labor law that they say dismantles workers' rights and allows for a 13-hour workday.
A mass demonstration is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Klafthmonos Square in central Athens.
