Police have banned a protest planned today at the Megaron-Athens Concert Hall, which was scheduled to coincide with an event for the new U.S. Ambassador, Kimberly Guilfoyle.
In a statement Friday, police headquarters said it was prohibiting the demonstration titled "Against the Reception of the Zionist American Ambassador."
The protest was organized by a group called the Assembly of Solidarity with the Palestinian Resistance and was set for 4:30 p.m.
Authorities said the ban extends to all related gatherings for a 24-hour period, beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, in the general area surrounding the concert hall.
The event for Ms. Guilfoyle, who officially started her duties this week, is one of her first high-profile engagements in Athens.
