While many Greeks are away on holiday, Athens remains culturally vibrant in August, offering a diverse lineup of free outdoor film screenings and major museum exhibitions for residents and visitors.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is hosting its popular "Park your Cinema" series, with upcoming films including "Past Lives" by director Ms. Celine Song (Aug. 22) and an accessible screening of "The Graduate" (Aug. 29).
The Athens Open Air Film Festival, now in its 15th year, will also offer free screenings, including a digitally restored copy of "For a Few Dollars More" on Aug. 27.
Major museums are also featuring notable temporary exhibitions.
The Acropolis Museum is hosting "Allspice," a collaborative exhibit featuring contemporary works by Iraqi-American artist Michael Rakowitz alongside ancient artifacts.
At the National Archaeological Museum, visitors can see the rare “Crater of the Lord from Lefkandi” and a sculpture exhibit by Tony Milakis. Meanwhile, the Benaki Museum is showcasing a photography exhibit on the island of Delos by Erieta Attali.
