All Athens Metro stations will be equipped with a defibrillator, following a donation by the Massoutis supermarket group and implemented by the Infrastructure & Transport Ministry, it was announced on Wednesday.
At the same time, a program providing defibrillators to taxis whose drivers wish to participate will be inaugurated by the Health Ministry, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis. All drivers participating will be trained in first aid and use of the defibrillators, as will the staff of urban transport so that the equipment may be used effectively in every incident.
The defibrillators will be connected to a central technical system of first aid that will provide directions remotely for the management of the incident and will be also provide information on whether additional assistance is needed. This will incorporate updated European models of prevention and safety in a practical way.
Installation of defibrillators in the Metro will begin immediately, while the first equipped taxis and trained drivers will shortly follow.
