Athens metro operator STASY will run extended services on Line 1 Saturday night to accommodate the estimated 80,000 fans attending Metallica's sold-out concert at the Olympic Stadium, the company announced.
Services on Line 1 will continue beyond normal operating hours after the show, with the duration depending on passenger demand as concertgoers leave the venue.
Metro Lines 2 and 3, as well as the tram network, will operate on a 24-hour schedule throughout Saturday, giving attendees additional transport options across the city.
The concert, part of the band's M72 World Tour supporting their 2023 album 72 Seasons, marks Metallica's return to Greece after a 16-year absence and their fifth appearance in the country. The show sold out rapidly, with tickets on the secondary market reaching as high as €3,460 — ten times face value — in the weeks leading up to the event.
Authorities have urged concertgoers to use public transport given the scale of the event, which is expected to generate significant road congestion across the northwestern Athens suburbs. Entry requirements include a ban on bags larger than A4 size, with professional cameras, metal-studded accessories and drones subject to confiscation at the gates.
