Athens has launched a new digital platform to help tourist coach operators reserve parking spaces in the city center, as municipal authorities move to ease traffic pressure during another record tourism season.
The app, called Athens Bus Parking, was developed by a municipal technology company and is designed to let operators locate, book and schedule available spaces more efficiently.
Officials said the aim is to reduce congestion around major landmarks, improve vehicle flow and limit the disruption caused by unregulated bus parking in the historic core.
The platform was presented at a meeting between municipal officials and representatives of the tourism transport sector.
Authorities said the immediate focus is to map existing coach parking areas and create a broader management plan to support sustainable urban mobility while improving daily traffic conditions.
The launch comes as Athens continues to grapple with rising visitor numbers and the strain they place on roads, transport corridors and public spaces.
Over the past month, debate in the capital has intensified over how to balance tourism growth with residents’ quality of life, including traffic control and the use of limited urban space.
Municipal officials have increasingly turned to digital tools to address those pressures, building on earlier smart-city efforts aimed at parking management and other urban services.
The city says the new app is part of a wider push to make Athens more functional for both residents and the millions of visitors it receives each year.
