Five people—two Israelis and three Palestinians—have been arrested following a violent clash in front of the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in central Athens, Greek police have said.

A criminal case was filed against the three Palestinian men for aggravated bodily harm with a racist motive.

The 29-year-old Israeli man faces charges of simple bodily harm and threats, while a 30-year-old Israeli woman was charged with racially aggravated insult.

An Israeli man and one of the Palestinian men were injured in the altercation and required hospital treatment.

Police seized six flagpoles at the scene as part of their investigation into the incident.

The confrontation marks another recent example of heightened public tensions in Athens linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
