Main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis in statements he made on Sunday in Patras as he arrived at the Church of Saint Andrew for the feast of the city’s patron saint said that the "regional development is a top priority for PASOK, both for major cities and rural areas, to address the significant national issue of demographics and to strengthen social cohesion".
However, as he noted, "Patras suffers from the lack of a regional development plan, as critical infrastructure is unfortunately delayed, and quality jobs are missing, resulting in the younger generation choosing to migrate internally or abroad".
At the same time, Nikos Androulakis pointed out that "the lack of a regional development plan affects the entire Greek countryside, which is evident in the primary sector", adding: "We were presented with as an achievement the delayed payments on 27 November, and ultimately, for the first time after the initial implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy, farmers and livestock breeders received 40% out of the 70% of the basic subsidies".
