The Greek artist and architect Andreas Angelidakis will represent Greece at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026 with an installation titled “Escape Room,” the Greek Ministry of Culture has officially confirmed.
The work will be exhibited at the historic Greek Pavilion from May 9 to Nov. 22, 2026.
The project will be managed by the MOMus museum in Thessaloniki.
Mr. Angelidakis’s installation is described as a modern reinterpretation of Plato’s cave allegory, using the concept of a popular escape room to explore themes of digital illusion, post-truth, and reality.
The artwork is expected to create an immersive environment where the audience’s presence becomes part of the spectacle through feedback mechanisms.
Mr. Angelidakis is known for a hybrid artistic practice that blends architecture, performance, and digital media to explore themes of identity and cultural memory.
His selection underscores Greece’s commitment to showcasing cutting-edge contemporary art on the international stage.
