Visual artist and architect Andreas Angelidakis will represent Greece at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026, according to a government decision published Wednesday.
While an official announcement from the Ministry of Culture is pending, documents posted on the Diavgeia government transparency portal show Mr. Angelidakis was selected for the prestigious international art exhibition. He will present an installation titled “Escape Room,” with Mr. Giorgos Bekirakis serving as curator. The project will be managed by the Metropolitan Organization of Museums of Visual Arts Thessaloniki (MOMus).
Mr. Angelidakis, who is based in Athens, is known for works that challenge conventional architecture by blending art, technology, and history. His installations, often featuring large cushions shaped like architectural fragments called “soft ruins,” have been exhibited at major international events, including documenta 14.
The Venice Biennale is one of the world's most prominent contemporary art exhibitions and will run from May 9 to Nov. 22, 2026.
