The new U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, is scheduled to host an exclusive gala on Saturday, hosting members of Athens' political and business elite.
The event, her first major social engagement since arriving, will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps. The black-tie reception is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will include a formal ceremony, dinner, and dance.
The gala is seen as Ambassador Guilfoyle's official entry into Athens' high-level diplomatic and social circles.
Ms. Guilfoyle, who was sworn in on Sept. 29 as the first female U.S. envoy to Greece, is expected to present her credentials to Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas in the coming days.
Following the weekend's events, Ms. Guilfoyle's formal diplomatic schedule is set to begin. Her duties are expected to focus on strategic cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the energy sector.
