Kimberly Guilfoyle, the United States’ top envoy to Greece, launched her diplomatic foray here, trading the formal rostrum for the dance floor as she joined a traditional syrtaki at a welcome gala in Athens.
Ms. Guilfoyle, who arrived in the country late last week, made the high-profile weekend appearances before formally presenting her credentials.
On Sunday evening, Ms. Guilfoyle was the guest of honor at a festive reception hosted by popular Greek singer Konstantinos Argyros at the Athens Center.
The event, which followed a separate ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps, served as her first major introduction to the city's political and business communities.
The gala gathered numerous entrepreneurs and political figures.
Mr. Argyros performed his hit songs, and the ambassador was seen enthusiastically dancing.
The highlight of the evening was when Ms. Guilfoyle joined Greek shipowner Nikos Tsakos and his wife, Celia Kritharioti, for the traditional syrtaki.
Representatives from the Pasok and Syriza parties were reportedly among those who praised the ambassador’s engagement with Greek culture.
They noted that such moments can deepen the diplomatic friendship between the two nations. Ms. Guilfoyle is expected to formally present her credentials to the Greek President this week.
