The alleged leader of a Turkish criminal organization wanted for homicide in his home country has been arrested along with five associates during a raid on a luxury villa near Athens where he was living a lavish lifestyle, Greek police have said.
The 29-year-old suspect, known by the nickname "Reiz," was arrested Thursday in the coastal town of Oropos.
Police said his group, called "Gun Maslum," is suspected of trafficking drugs and weapons in Greece, Turkey, and Spain.
During the raid, authorities seized a pistol, four luxury vehicles, and handwritten notes that appeared to be drug ledgers.
Officers also reported catching suspects attempting to destroy narcotics as police entered the property.
The alleged leader comes from a family with deep ties to organized crime, according to authorities.
He is wanted in Turkey for seven offenses, including homicide and arms trafficking.
The police operation is a significant blow to transnational criminal networks operating in the region.
