Police have detained five people for questioning in connection with the fatal beating of a 30-year-old man following a brawl at a nightclub in the western city of Patras.
The victim, identified by authorities as a member of the Roma community, was rushed to a hospital shortly before 5 a.m. with critical injuries.
He died despite emergency medical efforts. Police were alerted by hospital staff shortly after the death.
The five detainees are being examined for their involvement in a fight that erupted inside a venue on Agiou Andreou Street, a central nightlife district.
Among those detained is a prominent figure in the local nightlife scene.
Investigators determined the altercation began between two groups inside the club before spilling onto the street.
Club staff reportedly intervened to escort the individuals outside, where authorities believe the violence escalated.
Police received an initial call reporting a disturbance at the venue, followed 10 minutes later by a report of a serious injury.
No weapons have been recovered, and early forensic findings indicate the fatal injuries resulted from a severe physical beating.
The investigation remains active as detectives review witness statements and forensic evidence to determine individual culpability. Authorities stated further arrests remain possible.
