The second contract for the "Marietta Giannakou" School Building Renovation Programme was signed on Friday by the Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Interior Thodoris Livanios, Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Sofia Zacharaki, the Hellenic Union of Banks as trustee of the four donor Banks (Alpha Bank, Eurobank, National Bank and Piraeus) and Ktiriakes Ypodomes SA.
Dimas stressed that the project amounts to 100 million euros, from the donation of the Hellenic Union of Banks, which concerns interventions in 426 school units in 245 municipalities and in 13 regions of the country. The interventions include, among others:
- Renovation of sanitary facilities & creation of accessible W.C.'s for the disabled,
- Repairs to ramps for disabled access,
- Interior and exterior painting,
- Improvements to the courtyard area, with basketball and volleyball courts, as well as playgrounds in kindergartens.
The 100 million euros in funding comes from a donation by Greece’s mainstream banks. Renovation work is set to begin on 15 June, with the aim of completing most projects before the start of the new school year in September.
The total value of projects undertaken by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport under the 'Marietta Giannakou' School Building Renovation Programme has now exceeded 400 million euros.
