More than 40 days after a Chinese property manager vanished without a trace en route to collect rent in central Athens, investigators are still piecing together her final movements, with chilling details from her abandoned home only deepening the mystery.
Yu Ting, 50, was last seen on the morning of May 20.
Her Greek husband, who was working in China on a maritime engineering assignment, said she had visited Artemida town hall at 11:10am to collect property tax documents.
A local bus driver confirmed she later boarded the 305 route in her usual white attire and got off at Nomismatokopio metro station — and then disappeared.
Yu worked as a translator and managed Athenian real estate on behalf of wealthy Chinese investors.
Her mother-in-law told reporters she fears Yu was either struck by a careless driver or targeted for robbery while collecting cash from tenants in the capital.
Investigators believe Yu had every intention of returning home.
When her brother-in-law entered the couple's Artemida residence on 10 June to file a missing persons report, he found the aquarium lights still on, the blinds raised, and a cup of tea left to mould on the side.
The official police report was delayed because her husband was stranded at a remote Chinese port and unable to return immediately.
With the Chinese consulate now closely monitoring the case, detectives are racing to retrace Yu's route through Athens and identify anyone she may have encountered the day she vanished.
