Prime Minister Alexis Tsipas answered in parliament on Friday questions from the opposition about secret plan to hack tax data.

Opposition parties demanded answers after the release of a recording in which former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis described a secret plan to leave the euro.

In a recording released Monday, Greece's former finance minister detailed a contingency plan to create an alternative banking system that could switch to a new currency. The system would be "euro-denominated, but at the drop of a hat it could be converted into a new drachma," the former finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, said on the recording of a July 16 interview with an influential investment organization.

Varoufakis may face criminal charges, following revelations of his secret plan to establish an alternative currency in the event of Grexit.

During his address to the parliament The Greek prime minister confirmed that he authorized his former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis to draw up contingency plans in case the country was forced to leave the euro, calling it the obligation of a responsible government, Reuters reports.

“We didn’t design or have a plan to pull the country out of the euro, but we did have emergency plans. If our partners and lenders had prepared a Grexit plan, shouldn’t we as a government have prepared our defense?” Tsipras said answering to a question by center-left Pasok leader, Fofi Genimmata.

“Next time you go looking for scandals, take a look at your own party,” Tsipras told Gennimata
