European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis called on the Greek parliament to pass laws on reforms "very quickly.
Dombrovskis warned Greece not to delay the reforms it has pledged to implement, otherwise no funds will be disbursed.
“During the last months, trust has been lost and it needs to be restored,” Dombrovskis said in an interview with German tabloid Bild.
If the Greek government meets its obligations and implements reforms, “this will be a very important step,” he said.
Only when stability and confidence return, “Greece can get back to the path of growth, create jobs and restore confidence especially among the most vulnerable socially,” he argued.
Dombrovskis defended the Eurozone finance ministers decision to give Greece a €7bn bridging loan from an EU-wide fund despite the fact that the Greek parliament had not yet approved the entire bailout program. Dombrovskis acknowledged that the funds were important to to keep Greece's finances running and prevent it from sliding into insolvency.
But he warned that the EU will not keep the financial spigot open if Greece does not respect agreements and does not repay the emergency loan. He said that a Grexit "is not on the agenda," but Athens must stick to its agreements and carry out reforms in return for solidarity.
