Syriza MP and former minister of finance Yanis Varoufakis warned fellow lawmakers that European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker might sell out the Greek government.
“We need a clear commitment by the creditors concerning the Greek debt” he said
We need that commitment now and not on October as Juncker suggested, because he will sell us out as he did with Venizelos [Greece's Deputy Prime Minister from June 1013- January 2015]” Varoufakis said while speaking with journalists.
Meanwhile Varoufakis admitted that the Greek government was aware that the banks had to close if the government missed its €1.5 billion payment to the International Monetary Fund which was due June 30.
Sony Kapoor, managing director of the economics and finance think tank Re-Define, asked Varoufakis through his twitter account if Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem threatened him in February saying that “we're going to collapse our banks”
Varoufakis claimed that what Dijsselbloem actually said was that “the alternative to accepting the previous program was that the program crashes – meaning bank closures etc.”
