German Commissioner Günther Oettinger said that the offer for Greece is still on the table, but ruled out a renegotiation.
The comments, made in an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt by Günther Oettinger, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, came as Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced snap election to decide country's fate inside the euro zone.
Oettinger said that while the offer is still on the table, it “will not be the end of the world” if Greece and its creditors fail to reach an agreement. He further explained that if the country leaves the single currency, it would be possible to return within a decade.
Commissioner Oettinger stressed that the European Union would have to take measures in order to avert a possible humanitarian crisis in Greece. “The EU may have to deliver humanitarian aid to Greece after Wednesday” he said.
