German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble had a meeting with his Greek counterpart Yanis Varoufakis in Berlin. The meeting was held in an “extremely friendly” manner but reached no big breakthroughs.
According to sources the meeting lasted for about an hour, and the only thing that the two Ministers agreed was the causes that led to the Greek crisis but could not reach an agreement on the way to deal with the crisis.
According to the same sources that the Greek Finance Minister set clear to his German counterpart that he was not authorized by the Greek government to speak or negotiate on the plan drafted by the country's creditors while he stressed that any negotiation should take in consideration only the Greek proposals.
“There was a totally different approach in the way a solution could be found” sources close to the development said.
Immediately after the meeting Varoufakis told reporters that he and Mr. Schäuble have held “friendly and productive” talks adding that “it is about time for the political leaderships to take responsibilities for their actions”.
