Greece is currently in the throes of an intense weather front battering regions across the country with heavy rainfall.
Meteorologists have identified six areas to be hardest hit:
- Eastern Thessaly
- Sporades Islands, mainly Skiathos and Skopelos
- Southern Pieria
- Northern Euboea
- Phthiotis region in the north
- Eastern Aegean Islands, especially Chios and Lesbos
In the capital city of Athens, heavy rains persists while mountainous regions have seen snowfall with temperatures dropping -2 degrees Celsius.
The Pelion region has faced large disruptions with massive floodings.
Leading experts have already expressed concerns about the volume of water predicted to fall in Thessaly, as heavy rainfall is due to grip the region through Saturday.
